Challenge

Svevia, reported to maintain roughly half of Sweden’s road network, regularly faces safety risks at its worksites. According to statistics cited in the source, a TMA (Truck Mounted Attenuator) vehicle is struck roughly every 12.6 days.

Solution

As part of a project funded by the Swedish Building Industry Development Fund (SBUF) and led by Sigma Technology Embedded Network, two AXIS radar units and an AXIS camera were installed on TMA vehicles. This captured vehicle speeds and breaches of the safety buffer zone, with data collected during field tests stored in an AWS cloud database and evaluated via a dashboard.

Results

The project aimed to evaluate the system’s effectiveness and generate insights to reduce accidents and injuries for workers and motorists, as well as to improve understanding of accident causes to inform future road-closure safety practices.
