Challenge
The client, a Danish entrepreneur aiming to digitalize how sports clubs recruit and manage team members, had already completed several successful projects with SoftTeco, including an application that won a Danish Tech Award. For this new venture, he wanted a mobile app that would serve as a social and recruitment platform for sports clubs and players. Initially focused on handball, the concept was meant to expand to other sports, with features for player scouting, anonymous communication between scouts and players, team management and profile showcasing — starting from only a rough product idea with no technical documentation or designs.
Solution
SoftTeco’s mobile development team began with a discovery phase, running several workshops to turn the client’s rough idea into a clear product vision with defined user roles, core features and scalability requirements — resulting in a functional proof-of-concept. The app was built from scratch with React Native for cross-platform compatibility and Firebase for backend services including authentication, a real-time database, storage and messaging. Real-time chat runs on Firebase with custom logic for moving from anonymous to public communication, and Algolia was integrated to enable fast, efficient search. App Center supported CI/CD, with manual testing carried out throughout development.
Results
SoftTeco delivered a fully functional cross-platform application with robust chat functionality, a role-based access system (players, scouts, coaches, administrators) and a scalable infrastructure built for high volumes of real-time communication. As of the case study, the app had not yet been publicly launched.
