Challenge
When the Finnish client approached SoftTeco, the platform was still in an early stage with limited functionality. Technically, it relied on a microservices architecture that required a separate instance for every new clinic — an approach that drove up operating costs as the system scaled. SoftTeco’s task was to optimize the platform and expand its functionality, including integrations with external laboratories, payment processing, and automated invoicing.
Solution
SoftTeco moved the platform from a microservices structure to a monolithic architecture built on PostgreSQL, substantially reducing operating costs, and added a range of user-focused features. Quality assurance was strengthened through automated testing with Cypress.js and bug tracking with Sentry. Built in Java with a Vaadin interface and hosted on Google Cloud Platform, the application now offers online appointment booking via FullCalendar2 with automated SMS reminders, integration with external diagnostic laboratories such as IDEXX, and inventory and medication management that also connects to government systems through the XROAD interface for regulatory compliance. It further includes reporting, invoicing, payment tracking and automated reminders, and has been localized into twelve languages.
Results
SoftTeco maintains an ongoing partnership with the client, providing support, maintenance and new features on request. Planned next steps include integrating SendGrid for email communication, Twilio for SMS and WhatsApp messaging, and online payments via Stripe.
