Challenge

A Finnish company provides remote-control solutions for outdoor lighting to customers such as city councils and stadium operators. The underlying system had not been substantially updated since the company was founded more than a decade earlier. The client was looking for a partner to modernize the existing platform and add new features requested by its own customers.

Solution

SoftTeco built a new backend layer that sits between the proven legacy system and the new interface – a deliberate choice to preserve the already reliable communication with the lighting relays while adding the scalability the client needed. This new backend also carried new functionality such as dimming-index control and motion-sensor management. The user interface was completely redesigned as an Angular application and extended with an analytics dashboard and a map view of all connected devices. At the client’s request, the system was also made TALQ-compatible – a particular challenge since the team had no access to physical TALQ devices during development and had to validate compatibility using only the integration protocol and a TALQ test tool.

Results

SoftTeco successfully updated and scaled the existing lighting system, delivering all agreed requirements on schedule. The new control programs automatically adjust light intensity based on the time of day and year as well as ambient natural light, which the client reports can save up to 20% in energy and reduce CO2 emissions accordingly.
